Uwe Klein, PhD

Uwe Klein is a molecular pharmacologist, biochemist, and drug hunter. He brings more than 20 years of experience in small molecule drug discovery and deep expertise in GPCR biology to Septerna, where he leads Biological Sciences.

Prior to joining Septerna, Uwe was VP, Biology at Myokardia (later Bristol Myers Squibb) leading the discovery of therapeutics targeting heart disease.  Before that, Uwe was VP, Biology at Numerate leading multiple programs. Uwe started his career in the biopharmaceutical industry at Theravance Biopharma, where he led a team of biologists and two cross-functional project teams in the discovery of numerous development candidates and several clinical compounds across different therapeutic areas and target classes.

Uwe completed postdoctoral research on regulation of GPCRs at the University of California, San Francisco and at Stanford University. He received a MS in Chemistry and a PhD in Biochemistry from Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, with his thesis work on GPCR biochemistry conducted at the Max-Planck-Institute for Biophysics.
