William N. Charman, AO, BPharm, PhD

Bill Charman is the Former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Monash University (2007-2019) and founding Director of the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2007-2017). During his distinguished career, Dr. Charman’s research has been characterized by a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to addressing major issues in drug discovery, drug delivery and pharmaceutical sciences. His work has led to over 370 scientific publications and earned him many national and international research awards in the fields of drug discovery and pharmaceutical sciences.

Previously, he was Chair of the Wellcome Trust Seeding Drug Discovery Funding Committee; member of the Expert Scientific Drug Discovery Advisory Committee of the Medicines for Malaria Venture (Geneva); advisor to the World Health Organization (Geneva); and Co-Director of the Centre for Drug Candidate Optimisation (Melbourne). He has been co-founder of four companies, a Chair/Member of various Scientific Advisory Boards and a member of two Corporate Boards.

Charman received his BPharm from the Victorian College of Pharmacy, PhD in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Kansas and a DSc (honoris causa) from the University of London in 2011.
